Lights, Colour, Nutrients! LEDs play a starring role in providing nutrients
Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) produce single wavelengths of light. These can be combined (i.e. red, blue and amber light) to provide various spectra of light required for plants to make their own nutrients. Not all wavelengths are equally important; however, and it was unknown if LED light produced the same nutrients as natural light — until now. Dr. Cao will present his group’s latest research results that showed how different light spectra affect the nutritional composition of microgreens.

Ontario Egypt Business Seminar
The Canada Arab Business Council (CABC) and the Canada Egypt Business Council (CEBC), in collaboration with the Ontario Government and the Republic of Egypt Embassy in Ottawa, hosted its first in-person seminar promoting trade and investment between Ontario and Egypt on the 6th of June. This was followed by a networking lunch.

Green Energy Doors Open (GEDO)
The GEDO annual showcase weekend celebrates sustainable energy projects and success stories in provinces across Canada. Every year in early autumn, businesses, organizations, community cooperatives, indigenous communities, municipalities, and homeowners open their doors and host events to promote sustainable energy initiatives and technologies in their communities. GEDO aims to raise awareness, support, education and enthusiasm around sustainable energy in Canada

It is organized and spearheaded by OSEA. The initiative aims to showcase advancements in the sector, demonstrating that Ontario is already on the path to building a 100% clean, sustainable energy system.

These full day forums held across the province in fall 2017, brought together a cross section of community and business audiences representing municipal, Indigenous communities, Local Distribution Companies, Local Advisory Committees, and associations to explore the future direction of the electricity sector. The forums brought the dialogue down to the local level and facilitated conversations about how electricity can be harnessed to support the growth, resiliency and vibrancy of these communities.
